BOWLS Bowls BOWLS
What’s in your bowl? After mugs, bowls are my go-to useful object in my home. So simple but sometimes so difficult to get right. And what is a hand-built bowl? Not all of us are competent on the wheel or at the moment have access at the moment. Hand building bowls is a really wonderful way to flex your coil building skills (the sky is the limit), use your 2-D pattern making ideas to a 3-D soft slab built bowl. I will demo both coil building and also talk (demo) making and using templates to create 3-D bowl forms. Bonus- Let’s add a foot ring and talk(demo) trimming!
As with all my lessons the goal is to add skills to your making tool box and to also challenge your brain with idea and concepts to think about while making in the realm of functional objects.
All lessons will be available in recording form after the event, if you miss the online class. They will be available after the workshop for six months. I will be covering most of the lessons in my book, Mastering Hand Building. In addition to topics brought up during class and other skills and techniques I typically teach during in person events. I have found even in revisiting foundation lessons we pick up skills and thoughts/ideas we can bring to our more advanced projects. It is always important to play and explore and revisit forms as we grow as makers! I hope you will join me! I miss your faces and sharing clay time with you!
I do want to say, this time (2020) has been crazy to say the least. I can only speak to my experience but I have struggled in finding my balance with my mental and physical well being. And I am still struggling. But I know it is important to show up for myself and for others, to contribute positively what I can to the world. That is clay, and these lessons at the moment. I know things are uncertain right now and we don’t know what to expect , but I am committing to showing up for you and have a few minutes in our week that is devoted to making and creativity and our community.
