Cake Plates

I was invited to participate in a dessert show. Which gave me the wonderful new challenge of creating work that was treat specific!   What is a dessert show without a cake plate.  As I am  not drawn to frilly design, I researched cake plates. I was drawn to the victorian style of cake plate, less pedestal more connection to the table more of a frame for the cake than a massive table ornament.  This is my interpretation of a cake plate, fun, colorful and festive. These sit tabletop on feet. I love playing scale, individual cake sizes and party size cakes.

This lesson includes, discussion on scale, design with reductive and assertive elements, added feet, shrink slab explanation, coil and slab building options.

Hello!!  Thank you so much for signing up for this continuing clay adventure!!

What you may need - Folks should show up with questions and a notebook. I fear if you work along-side me you will miss a lot of the information. Everyone that attends the live sessions of class is able to ask (via chat feature) questions about anything you want! Technique, business, studio practice.   I love questions and I want to share info that you all are interested in! So please ask- lots of safety in the chat feature so don’t be shy! Remember you can always re-watch the lesson if you miss something!   Please think more demo than hands on for these lessons.  Bring your maker/artist selves and let’s have some fun!

Some things about ZOOM

You should have some kind of computer/ tablet/ phone capable of joining a zoom call. There is no need for you to have your camera on, but you will need your device to be able to watch and listen.

(You may be old hands at the Zoom but if not get on a little early and figure practice a bit. It is pretty straight forward. )

Also, there is a chat feature which we will use for questions. That way we won’t talk over each other and I’ll be able to answer any of your questions! I will have someone  there moderating certain features and helping with questions once class gets started.

Thank you all for being game for this! I think it will be a fun activity and look forward to seeing your shining faces!!

I will send out a second email with the link to the meeting(same as below)- I am going to schedule the meeting to start 15 minutes earlier so folks can get set up (there is a virtual waiting room!) I'll be on early hoping to get all the kinks worked out, so we can start on time!  (Link below)

P.S.

A couple Extra details –

Each class is a stand-alone lesson – meaning you do not have to attend any of the other classes to understand the lesson. I will cover all the details to accomplish the goal set forth in the class description.

Each class should be about 1-2 hours. I aim to wrap class up at about an hour and a half but depending on questions and subject there are times it can hit 2 hours.

Each class will be recorded and available for the next 12 months In case you miss class or can’t attend on the scheduled day or want to re-watch while you are in your studio.

ZOOM-   All classes will be scheduled in Mountain Standard Time (11 AM) as that is where I am located (Helena, MT) (be sure to check when that is for you- I always mess this up and miss meetings if I don’t put it in my calendar right way with the time adjustment).
